British pop star Sting (66) will return to Korea for the first time in four and a half years, performing at a small 400-seat theatre. The concert will take place at 7:30 PM on April 31st at the Hyundai Card Understage in Itaewon, Seoul. Sting, who debuted in 1977 with the band "The Police" and later went solo, has released a string of beloved hits in Korea, including "Shape of My Heart," and deserves to perform on a larger stage.
However, by participating in Hyundai Card's "Hyundai Card Curated" format concert, I was able to experience his vivid expressions and vocal texture up close. In November 2015, Hyundai Card also invited British singer-songwriter Elton John (70) to perform at Hyundai Card Underpage, also under the name "Hyundai Card Curated Elton John."
Sting is beloved for his lyrical melodies and philosophical lyrics. Including his time with The Police, he has sold approximately 100 million albums to date. His award-winning career includes 16 Grammy Awards and 25 American Music Awards.
Sting, who debuted as the main vocalist and bassist for "The Police," made his solo debut in 1985 with the album "The Dream of the Blue Turtles." "Shape of My Heart," from her 1993 album "Ten Summoner's Tales," gained international fame when it was included on the soundtrack of the film "Leon."
Following her 1996 album "Mercury Falling," which expressed Irish nationalism, she collaborated with American hip-hop musician Puff Daddy on "Roxanne 97," and has since expanded her musical horizons across pop, jazz, hip-hop, and world music. In 2014, she brought the autobiographical musical "The Last Ship," set in a shipyard in a seaside English town, to Broadway.
She is also active in social activities, participating in Amnesty International's "Human Rights Now" tour and founding "The Rainforest Foundation," a fundraising effort to preserve the Amazon rainforest. She also held a charity concert in Australia to raise £1.6 million for tsunami victims. In recognition of his contributions, he was awarded the title of Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) by the British royal family in 2003.
This "Hyundai Card Curated Sting" concert is part of Sting's world tour to commemorate the release of his regular album "57th & 9th," released in November of last year. Hyundai Card stated, "A number of talented artists, including guitarists and drummers who have worked with Sting for a long time, will be participating."
